Scio High School FFA Member Named Dairy Entrepreneurship Proficiency Winner
From FFA Advisor Krysta Sprague:
“Clancey applied for a proficiency award at the state level in March 2023 and was selected as the winner for the state of Oregon. She then moved on to a regional competition in the summer and was selected as a Top 4 finalist in the nation. After being selected as a Top 4 finalist, she underwent a virtual video interview process prior to the National FFA Convention. At the convention, she was recognized on stage as the national winner for her proficiency area.
One requirement of FFA members is that they have a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE), which is something they do outside of class hours that relates to agriculture. A proficiency award is an award students apply for that showcases the breadth and achievements of their SAE throughout their time in high school and FFA. The last time Oregon FFA had a national proficiency winner in Dairy Cattle Entrepreneurship was in the early 1970s, so this is a great accomplishment. Clancey will win a cash prize amongst other accolades.
We took 5 FFA members to National Convention to attend and experience the convention as well as celebrate Clancey’s achievements. This was the 96th National FFA Convention, and there were more than 70,000 attendees.”
